Debate is the quintessence of any civilised society and stagnation occurs when matters of importance are settled by compromise or worse, violence. Time and again, healthy debates and discussions have been instrumental in bringing about changes that have benefitted the society in the long run.
The NDA government declared December 25, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Good Governance Day in 2014 to honour him by fostering awareness among the Indian people of accountability in government. The Editorial Board, the literary sub- council of Council of Student Activities of Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology organises a debate competition every year on December 25 that aims at honing the students’ oratory skills and simultaneously acquaints them with their duties as the citizens of the world’s largest democracy. Last year too, the event witnessed humongous participation in the competition where students engaged in a war of words and realised that the onus of the country’s future is on them.
